KKIA was the largest airport in the world by ground area (225 km²) until King Fahd International Airport was completed in 1999.1 More than 9 million passengers are using the airport each year and the number is consistently increasing.
Challenge
There are more than 11,000 parking spaces on two large three-level garages in front of the passenger terminals. Parking operations and communication was becoming a problem. The airport was looking to improve parking security and overall experience for employees, travelers, and airport businesses.
Solution
Once again, Al Musbah’s parking division was awarded the responsibility of improving the overall parking experience. Number Plate technology was utilized to automate the management and monitoring process, and decrease the waiting time for customers. Added-value services such as air for tire filling, battery charging, and towing services are available.
Equipments and access to the parking management software, which was developed by Fore-Vision, were provided to the airport operations and airport police. Airport operations were given the right to update the database of members of Free Employee Parking, while Airport Police were allowed to view the database in order for them to issue replacements for lost tickets. The authorities have different access rights to the system and notifications of wanted cars takes place as soon as they enter the parking facilities.
All the parking gates are connected with the control Room using Fiber Optic LAN infrastructure in order to share the online database of the Parking System. The same LAN is being used to implement the VOIP solution to produce the best quality of voice at no extra cost.
